Since our partnership with LA21 Kuala Lumpur we received lots support from volunteers in such clean up exercise in Bukit Bintang. It is heartening to see more than half the participants who do not reside of work in Bukit Bintang contributing their effort to clean Bukit Bintang.  Thank you all for the support, you deserved a big hand.

Some caring friends asked me a question this morning, telling me that when we talk of 3R, it should not have the alphabet “S” at the back of 3R. Why 3R “S”? I believed 3R, reduce, reuse and recycle should be a live long practice, not once or twice a day or on selected days of the week, but always, in other words “Selalu”. Let us all promote the awareness and importance of waste management, the waste we produced, if not treated with care, could lead to varieties of manmade mishaps, such as floods, indiscriminate waste dumping site, dengue outbreaks, air pollution, contamination of our water sources and many more. One example, what happened recently in the Klang Valley, tempers flared in many locations due to frequent  water disruptions to our homes. The cause, contamination of our water sources as a result of indiscriminate dumping of waste.   Ask ourselves, have we done enough to mitigate such problems.  Are you committed? Selalu?

Our heartfelt appreciation to our partners, Green City College, Malaysian Association of Environment And Health, Indah Water Consortium, Jabatan Kesihatan dan Alam Sekitar, DBKL and Alam Flora, conducting talks, imparting and sharing their expertise to school children on good sustainable practises this morning.  Also PPR Raya Permai for their advice on mosquitoes’ repellent plants and Persatuan Penduduk Kampung Malaysia Tambahan on the recycling of used banners. Please visit all the exhibition booths to learn a thing or two from our partners.   I also wish to thank our partners for their continuous support of venue, equipment, logistic, breakfasts, door gifts and lucky draw prizes for this morning’s event.

Special thanks to the committee for their input and support during meetings in the run up to this event. I also wish to thank my team from the Federal and Capitol in putting things together for this morning’s event.  But most importantly, my heartfelt thanks to everyone, for your efforts and contributions towards a better Bukit Bintang Central and hopefully all of us here are able to bring 3R practises to the next higher level.  Last but not least, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur “Selamat Ulangtahun Ke 10” and we in Bukit Bintang, are proud to be associated with”.

Mr Louis Sebastian, General Manager of The Federal Kuala Lumpur and Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur said “Our Management and Staff comprising Front Office and Reservation, Finance & Accounts Department, F&B Department, Sales & Marketing, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Banquet as well as Chefs will be participating in this meaningful event.   The Federal KL has been practising the 3R – reduce, reuse and recycle concept as we believe it is important to cultivate the healthy environment from home and thus help to sustain the clean environment for future generations.  BBCEC Gotong Royong is an ongoing interaction that involve local communities from hotels, to retail and even school children to further promote Gotong Royong spirit.  We want to provide better holiday experiences for guests and tourists visit Bukit Bintang and Kuala Lumpur”

As Good Corporate Citizens, Federal Hotels International together and its FHI Group of Hotels namely The Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur are very pleased to be able to continue spearheading the initiative of such community service, i.e. to clean-up our beloved Bukit Bintang Central area.  Now, this BBCEC Gotong Royong has drawn further support and participation from both public, Government Sector and Private Sectors, and on behalf of Bukit Bintang Central Environmental Committee, and The Federal Kuala Lumpur being the host of the 32nd  Gotong Royong, we would like to thank our their supporting partners in making this event successful:
